for some, handknitted socks are the ultimate in knitting. people keep asking me about them and for them. i have made some available on etsy - these feature fair isle technique used to achieve some fairly simple geometric shapes.
knitting these took some time but as one learns the techniques, it is quite enjoyable to produce these wooly buggers.
some tips for aspiring socks knitters:
when searching for inspiration, you will discover a ton of photos of beautiful socks made of impossibly thin yarn. making these will easy take as long as knitting a simple vest. it might seem odd for you to try that. please resist the temptation to tell the knitters of those socks they are crazy - they have been told already, countless times. and you do not even know how much a good sock yarn costs... yet.
your first socks will certainly not be perfect. unless the person looking at them is a very experienced and hypercritical knitter, it will not be noticeable.
the difference between wearing handmade socks and wearing mass produced ones is way bigger than anyone sees... until they try them on.
